The Großvenediger (3666 m, 12028 ft)
* is one of the highest mountains in the Eastalps.
He belongs to the impressing national park "Nationalpark Hohe Tauern".
The first time he was ascended in 1841 by A. v. Ruthner.

The Großvenediger is the fourth mountain in altitude in the Eastalps.
Approach: East: from the Gschlöss (Innergschlöss), South: From the Virgental (
Prägraten a. G., recommended), North from the Ober- or Untersulzbach- or Habachtal.
*Remark: Because of new GPS measurements, the altitude of the Großvenediger resulted in 3666 metre (12028 feet), instead of 3674 metre (12054 feet).
On this page I use the "exact", scientific GPS measurement, because I
try to describe scientific topics here.
On the other pages of this site I did not use the exact measurements, so my information might be different.
Geology
The Großvenediger is the main-peak of the "Venedigergruppe" in the "Hohen Tauern".
The whole "Venedigergruppe" ist the most glaciated mountain range of the "Hohen Tauern", between "Krimmler Tauern" (2633 m, 8639 ft) and "Felber Tauern" (2481 m, 8140 ft), consisting of gneiss ("Centralgneiss" of the Venedigercore) and crystalline schists of the Tauernschistcover (Tauernwindow).
To the highest mountains belong: Großvenediger (3666 m, 12028 ft), Dreiherrnspitze (3499 m, 11480 ft), Großer Geiger (3360 m, 11024 ft), Weißspitze (3300 m, 10827 ft) und Hoher Eichham (3371 m, 11060 ft).
Lakes: Eissee (2664 m, 8740 ft), Plattachsee (2199 m, 7215 ft), Seebachsee (2083 m, 8634 ft) and others.
The biggest névé field is the "Obersulzbachkees". The northern part of the "Venedigergruppe" belongs to the national park "Nationalpark Hohe Tauern". In Prägraten a. G. are the "Umbalfälle", in Salzburg the "Krimmler Wasserfälle" situated.
