DESCRIPTION
Sertraline HCl is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) for oral
administration. It is chemically unrelated to other SSRIs, tricyclic, tetracyclic,
or other available antidepressant agents. It has a molecular weight of 342.7.
Sertraline hydrochloride has the following chemical name: (1S-cis)-4-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-N-methyl-1-nanphthalenamine
hydrochloride. The empirical formula is C17H17NCl2·HCl.
Sertraline hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder that is slightly
soluble in water and isopropyl alcohol, and sparingly soluble in ethanol.
Zoloft is supplied for oral administration as scored tablets containing
sertraline hydrochloride equivalent to 25, 50 and 100 mg and the following
inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate, Dy & C Yellow
#10 aluminum lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Blue #1 aluminum lake (in
25 mg tablet), FD & C Red #40 aluminum lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD&C
Blue #2 aluminum lake (in 50 mg tablet), hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl
methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene
glycol, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, synthetic yellow iron oxide
(in 100 mg tablet), and titanium dioxide.

SERTRALINE (Zoloft®) is an antidepressant. It helps to improve a depressed
person's mood. Sertraline can also help people with an obsessive compulsive
disorder, panic attacks, post-trauma stress, or social anxiety. Sertraline
may also be prescribed for other purposes, like premenstrual dysphoric disorder
(PMDD), a severe type of premenstrual syndrome. Generic sertraline tablets
are not yet available.

Take sertraline tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription
label. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. You may take sertraline
with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take
your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your
prescriber's advice.

of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing

What is the most important information I should know about Zoloft?
• Do not stop taking Zoloft without first talking to your doctor. It may
take 4 weeks or more for you to start feeling better and you may experience unpleasant
side effects if you stop taking Zoloft suddenly.
What is Zoloft?
• Zoloft is in a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
Zoloft affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression,
panic or anxiety, obsessive or compulsive symptoms, or other psychiatric symptoms.
• Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic
disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder
(PMDD), and social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia.
• Zoloft may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this
medication guide.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Zoloft?
• Do not take Zoloft if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate)
during the last 2 weeks. Serious, and sometimes fatal, reactions have occurred
when these medicines have been used together.
• Do not take Zoloft if you are taking pimozide (Orap). A dangerous drug
interaction could result.
• Before taking Zoloft, tell your doctor if you
· have liver disease;
· have kidney disease;
· suffer from seizures; or
· suffer from mania or have suicidal thoughts.
• You may not be able to take Zoloft, or you may need a dosage adjustment
or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed
above.
• Zoloft is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is unknown
whether it will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take Zoloft without first
talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
• It is not known whether Zoloft passes into breast milk. Do not take Zoloft
without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
