FWA > Board FAQ

Skim through this FAQ before posting. Ok, so some of them aren't questions. I can hardly rename it to Frequently Asked Questions and Statements I Think I Should Reply To, can I?

>> Trolls and Flamers <<

How do I become a moderator?

Post well, be generally well-known and friendly with a particular board, and we may make you a moderator automatically. We need approximately one moderator for every 15 members, so when the time comes, you may be messaged an offer to be one. Or just ask me really nicely

What does a moderator do?

Moderate . Deleting or editing posts to censor offensive material is the main thing. They also have to be friendly and help out with any problems.

How can you ban people if they have dynamic IP addresses?

Just because their IP addresses change doesn't mean I can't ban them. YaBB has some very nice security features, and I can ban IP, e-mail, name, nickname, etc. If the person comes back on as someone completely different, fine. As long as he/she doesn't cause any more trouble I don't care.

What the heck are those stars under my name?

Posting pips. Yep, the more you post, the more pips you get. Your text rank (Obsessive, Newbie, ...) goes up as well. It just shows how active you are in the FWA boards.

Some people have weird titles like 'Evil Overlord' - how do I get one?

Custom ranks are given to people with real characters - annoying, funny, whatever - or those who ask real nice. Oh yeah, and if you're important (like the webmaster of fanfiction.net or something) you'll get one too.

I've seen some offensive content on the board. How do I report it?

Gah! Message me quick! Or a moderator. My nick is admin, and moderator nicks are shown on every board. Include the thread name or URL when you report it, and it'll be removed quickly.

How do I delete my posts?

For some reason, you can't - unless you're a moderator, and as a moderator you can delete any post . However, you can simply edit it, and erase your entire message, and replace it with something like [deleted]. By the way, you can't delete threads either.

Someone's abused their moderator privileges!

What you say!? Inform me via messaging (nick: admin) enclosing the URL or name of the thread where he/she did wrong and I'll see what I can do.

I would like a forum about [Zelda]. Can you add one?

Probably. There's several general discussion forums, and if enough people are talking about a subject, I may put a board up. Message me (once again, nick: admin) with your suggestion and I'll look into it. If a new board is made, I'll always announce it.

I hate [Harry Potter/Lemons/Anime/etc]. Why did you make a board about it?

Er...because it's popular. Look, I don't like some of the stuff (I won't go tell which) but I've still put boards up because like it or not, they're popular and deserve forums. Just ignore those boards; please don't flood them full of flames. You'll be banned.

I can't log in!

There may be several things wrong.

  • Script/ISP/Hosting errors - I can't help those. They happen occasionally. Try again.

  • Cookies - the most common problem. Make sure cookies are enabled on your browser.

  • More Cookies - 'Ad-Banner Blocker' programs may prevent cookies from being sent to you. Turn off cookie blocking, or turn off the entire program. Cookies are required for the boards to work.

  • Passwords - are case sensitive. 'password' and 'PaSsword' and 'PASSWORD' are completely different. If you need help with passwords, use the contact form.

If you have a question, shoot it here. I reply to most problems personally, but if it's asked too often, I'll add it above. Oh yeah, and make sure you don't end up asking a question that's already up there
