The Romulan Starship Database is a registry of past, present, and future vessel classes that serve the Romulan Star Empire. The database classifies vessels in three categories: active service, retired service, and prototypes.
Active Service
D'deridex-class A-type Warbird
The A-type Warbird is considered the flagship class of the Romulan Warfleet. It is the largest vessel ever built by the Romulan Star Empire and currently out-classes any Federation starship in existence, including the new Sovereign-class starship. With its massive array of weapons, which includes 9 plasma torpedo bays and 20 disruptor cannons, the A-type is one of the most feared warships in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Although it's tremendous size, it is extremely agile and heavily armored.
D'kazanak-class B-type Warbird
The mainstay of the Romulan Warfleet, the B-type Warbird is the most widely used vessel in all branches of the Romulan military. At 2,640 feet long, the B-type is only 2/3 the overall length of the A-type Warbird and is slightly larger than a Federation Galaxy-class starship. The B-type not only has an advantage over the Galaxy-class in size, but also in firepower. Armed with 4 plasma torpedo bays and 8 disruptor cannons, the B-type easily overpowers the Federation starship in a firefight.
D'kazanak-class C-type Warbird
The C-type Warbird is a lighter and more agile version of the B-type Warbird, which the C-type is derived from. The most significant difference between the two is the C-type's lack of a lower hull. The C-type is only reserved for transportation of high-ranking Romulan officials, including the Praetor himself. When trouble arises, this stealthy gunboat is a devastating adversary. More heavily armed than most B-types, the C-type demolishes its opponents with 6 plasma torpedo bays and 10 disruptor cannons.
Bird-of-Prey
The Bird-of-Prey is a symbol of the Romulan Star Empire's strength and prosperity. After 87 years of service, the Bird-of-Prey continues to be the most versatile warship in the fleet, serving as a gunship, science vessel, transport, and reconnaissance ship in all branches of the Romulan military. After the installation of 2 disruptor emitters, warp drive, simultaneous-launching plasma cannon, and many other retrofits, the Bird-of-Prey is an easy match for the Federation's Excelsior-class starship.
Cruiser
Serving as the Empire's cargo and patrol vessel, the Cruiser awaits its replacement, which is currently in prototype stage of development. The Cruiser is based on the K't'inga-class Klingon Battle Cruiser. What sets the Romulan Cruiser apart from its Klingon twin is its higher energy output due to the installation of the more efficient Romulan drive system and more effective Romulan cloaking device. The Cruiser has also been refitted with a simultaneous-launching plasma torpedo weapon.
Scout Ship
The Scout Ship is a small, maneuverable vessel that is utilized as a multi-purpose transport and can be modified to fit many roles in any given mission. Comparable to, but more powerful than the Federation Danube-class Runabout, the Scout can attain a maximum speed of warp 7.5 for 2 days, making it an ideal reconnaissance vessel due to its range, size, and speed. The Scout Ship is armed with 2 disruptor arrays, but can be refitted to carry a plasma torpedo launcher.
Science Ship
Although utilizing an identical drive system as the Scout, the Science Ship is a totally different vessel altogether. The Science Ship serves strictly as an exploratory vessel with its hardware consisting mostly of advanced sensors, probes, and other scanning devices. On some occasions, the Science Ship has been used by the Imperial Military to conduct tests on experimental hardware such as various new warp drives and cloaking devices, but its use has primarily been devoted to civilian scientists.
Imperial Shuttle
The Imperial Shuttle is slightly smaller than the Scout Ship but carries the same armament. Such caliber armament for a small craft is necessary because the Shuttle's primary duty is short-range transportation of high-ranking Romulan officials. The Shuttle, an abundance of which can be found on the flight decks of C-type Warbirds, is an easy match for the Federation Danube-class Runabout.
Retired Service
Warbird, circa 2156
The original Warbird, circa 2156, was a primitive warship that consisted of weapons, drive, and life support systems. It was a simple vessel with only one purpose: war. Armaments include nuclear projectiles and outdated laser technology.
Warbird, circa 2286
In 2286, a special team of engineers sought out to design a more powerful Cruiser with stronger hull integrity, massive defense shield output, and a devastating array of weapons. The second-generation Warbird's main skeletal frame is based on the Cruiser, but that's where the similarity ends. With the addition of a thicker main bridge support boom, stronger ablative armor bulkhead, and uprated disruptors and plasma torpedo weapons, the Cruiser/Warbird out-classed any Federation vessel of its time.
Prototypes
Ostberg-class Dreadnought
The Imperial Military's answer to the Defiant-class Federation Escort, the Ostberg-class Dreadnought will prove to be the most lethal warship in the Romulan Warfleet. As to its production possibilities, it is quickly gaining support from the Imperial Senate, becoming more popular than its Tal Shiar rival, the Talon (see below). Armed with 8 plasma pulse cannons, 1 type-Y disruptor, and 6 type-W disruptors and capable of attaining velocities beyond warp 9.9 for extended periods of operation, the Ostberg-class Dreadnought is destined to crush all that dare to cross its path.
Advanced Bird-of-Prey
This successor to the timeless Bird-of-Prey will prove to be as much an asset to the Romulan Warfleet as was the original. Unfortunately, only small details are known about this warship. There is rumor that the Advanced Bird-of-Prey will be powered by an enhanced Quantum Singularity Drive that will allow it to travel at warp 9.91 for twelve hours. Also rumored is the use of a phase-cloaking device.
Selok
The Romulan Star Empire's answer to the Klingon Bird-of-Prey, the Selok will be produced in large fleets that will fly in squadrons. Rumored to out-gun the Klingon B'rel-class and K'vort-class Birds-of-Prey, the Selok will not only be superior in maneuvering capabilities, but in firepower as well.
Advanced Cruiser
The Advanced Cruiser, the long-awaited replacement for the Klingon-based Battle Cruiser, will serve as the Warfleet's front-line destroyers. Armed with 2 plasma torpedo bays and 8 disruptor cannons, the Advanced Cruiser has the firepower to go head-to-head with the Federation's higher-classed starships, including the Galaxy-class. Launch of this class vessel is scheduled for the next solar year.
Talon
Designed by Tal Shiar engineers, the Talon was developed with three guidelines in mind: 1) Build a warship that will rival the best in the Romulan Warfleet, 2) Agility, speed, and diminutive size should be taken into great consideration, and 3) Arm it to the teeth with the most lethal weapons ever produced in Romulan science. The result is a warship armed with 8 plasma repulsers that continuously fire in rapid succession and 4 type-Y planetary defense disruptor cannons. Simulated tests show that the Talon will tear the Federation Defiant-class escort to shreds in a one-on-one confrontation. The Tal Shiar are eager to prove these tests.
