Eugene (Gene) Wesley (Now
you know where Wesley crusher has his name from)
Roddenberry starts his work on Star Trek. - In
fact it was hard work to get money and the people
for Star Trek in a time when Science Fiction
series werenīt famous (today they are thanks to
ST and some other great series) and everybody
thought that Star Trek would "die"
after the first episodes. |

The first episode of Star
Trek TOS is shown on NBC-TV. The great story
written by George Clayton Johnson and the
brilliant (for their time) special effects made
the viewers love Star Trek. The Original Series
lasted for 3 seasons, totalling 79 episodes. It
chronicled the voyages of the starship Enterprise
under the command of Captain James T. Kirk
(subsequent scripts referred to him as T.) It was
not exactly at the top of the charts, but
developed a loyal following. More familiar
characters were introduced, namely DeForest
Kelley as Dr. Leonard McCoy, Nichelle Nichols as
Lt. Uhura, and Majel Barrett as Nurse Christine
Chapel. Sulu assumed his place at the helm. In
the second season, Walter Koenig joined the cast
as Ensign Pavel Chekov. |

NBC-TV planed to take Mr
Spock out because some religious viewers
associated him with the devil when they saw his
ears. Gene Roddenberry was against this and Spock
stayed on the bridge of the Enterprise. |

After the end of the
second season, Star Trek was scheduled for
cancellation, but was saved by a massive
letter-writing campaign. Star Trek was renewed
but placed on the Friday, 10:00pm slot. This was
considered the "Death Slot" because of
low viewership. Star Trek was gone after the
third season. |

them to all TV stations. Most program directors
decided to show 5 episodes per week and Star Trek
became more popular than ever before. Now Star
Trek can be viewed all around the world an in at
least 114 cities within the US. |

annoying. Till today this rule has proved to be

Star Trek "The Next
Generation" - TNG starts with "Mission
Farpoint". In 1986, Paramount began work on
a new TV series set around 90 years after the
original series. It was to feature a new cast and
a new starship. The pilot episode, Encounter at
Farpoint, aired in 1987. The series featured
Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard,
Jonathan Frakes as Commander William Riker, Brent
Spiner as the android officer Data, LeVar Burton
as Chief Engineer Geordi LaForge, Michael Dorn as
Klingon security chief Worf, Gates McFadden as
Chief Medical Officer Beverly Crusher, and Marina
Sirtis as Counselor Deanna Troi. The first season
also included Denise Crosby as Lt. Tasha Yar. Yar
died midway through the first season and was
replaced by Worf. However, Denise Crosby returned
in later episodes as an alternate version of Yar
from another timeline, and that Yar's daughter,
Sela. Gates Mc Fadden also left during the second
season and was replaced by Diana Muldaur as Dr.
Kate Pulaski. McFadden returned in the third
season. The series featured an all-new starship
named Enterprise, NCC-1701-D. It was a
Galaxy-class vessel, larger and more powerful
than its predecessors. It carried over two
thousand people, including families of the crew,
and could separate its saucer in emergencies, so
that it can escape while the lower section goes
into battle or other situations. Star Trek: The
Next Generation ran for 7 seasons, totalling 178
episodes. It's finale, All Good Things... was a
two-hour movie-length episode that closed the
series with a bang. |

Star Trek "Deep
Space 9" - DS9 starts with
"Emissary". Deep Space Nine is a
spin-off from The Next Generation. It's set in a
remote space station in Bajoran space. The
Cardassians have left Bajor, leaving the planet
in shambles. The new provisional government
requests Federation assistance in the rebuilding
of the planet. Starfleet then assumes command of
the old Cardassian mining facility in orbit
around Bajor. Soon, however, they discover a
stable wormhole to the Gamma quadrant of the
galaxy, normally reachable in 70 years at maximum
warp. The wormhole allows one to travel to and
from the Gamma quadrant in a few minutes. The
station, code-named Deep Space Nine, is relocated
to the mouth of the wormhole. Starring Avery
Brooks as Captain Benjamin Sisko, Rene
Auberjonois as Odo, Terry Farrel as Lt. Cmdr.
Jadzia Dax, Cirroc Lofton as Jake Sisko, Colm
Meany as Cihief Miles O'Brien (formerly
transporter chief of the USS Enterprise)
Armin Shimmerman as the Ferengi Quark, Alexander
Siddig as Dr. Julian Bashir, and Nana Visitor as
Major Kira Nerys. Michael Dorn joined the cast in
the fourth season as Lt. Cmdr. Worf, formerly of
the USS Enterprise. |

The Internet becomes more
and more popular and many Star Trek sites are
written. Some of them are still there today but
most of them didnīt survive the first years. -
Sure there have been newsgroups , chats and sites
dealing with Star Trek before 1993 but in my
opinion 1993 was the year when the first real
Star Trek sites appeared. |

Star Trek 7
"Generations" the 7th Star Trek movie
tries to connect the TOS and TNG movies but the
outcome is not very good (but not too bad). Kirk
was retired and attends the christening of the
new USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-B. However, an
emergency mission forces the ill-equipped
starship into action, and Kirk is lost, declared
dead. He turns out to be trapped in an
interspatial nexus where he meets Captain
Jean-Luc Picard. He returns with Picard to the
24th century to help stop a madman from
destroying a star system. This movie pictures the
meeting of Kirk and Picard. The story stops after
Kirk is lost, and resumes in the 24th century in
the Next Generation era. The Enterprise-D is
destroyed and Kirk dies at the end of the movie. |
