~~~ First Officer's personal log, stardate 54737.9
Neelix and I managed to liberate the crew of Voyager, from the Quarren, with Kim and the Doctor's help, but there were complications. In addition to the medical needs of the crew, a few other entanglements had to be resolved. A number of crewmen and officers had started new lives on the planet, and were unwilling to give them up. After so long away from home and family, they actually saw the abduction and subsequent brainwashing as a gift not a violation.
The Doctor tried in vain to convince the affected individuals that this was a common psychological response to their ordeal, but for the most part they chose not to listen. In the end, they refused to leave the planet without their new families. In some cases this meant the addition of children and pets as well as spouses or significant others.
When he failed, it was more than Ensign Kim could take. As he realized they would be in this situation permanently, and that most all of the women onboard, including Seven, were now spoken for. One of his last acts, before succumbing to that intestinal parasite, was to make good on his threat to reprogram the Doctor. He was still functional after the alterations, but a number of key subroutines were missing, along with a cherished appendage.
I can't help but feel some guilt in what happened to Harry. I believe the last straw may have been my growing closeness with Seven. He had never given up on her, and when we began seeing each other seriously.... I don't think expected it.
He wasn't the only one. Seven was one of the last people on the ship I would have considered. If it hadn't been for seeing how happy Kathryn was with Jeffen, I might never have considered it. But Seven is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, and by far the most intelligent. She doesn't have as much practical experience as Kathryn, or, thank God, as Seska. She is unique. We have more in common that I would have thought. She lost her family and wound up on the wrong side of the Federation line between good and evil.
Seven has made a number of things bearable. I was able to cope with most of the aftermath of the Quarren, with one exception. Kathryn absolutely refused to part with Jeffen, and so he was brought back to the ship with the rest of the crew. He moved into her quarters, next door, and they were obviously quite happy with the arrangement. That is, if the noise that filtered through the adjoining wall was any indication.
Fortunately, it was only a few weeks until Seven decided it would be more efficient to share quarters. Her company, and some added soundproofing have made all the difference. What she and I have is not the same as what Kathryn and I had.... It is even better, because I can be free to love her without worrying about Starfleet and its protocol. I really think Kathryn is happier this way too.
End log. ~~~
As he ended the log, there was a noise in the hallway. One of the new pets was growling. He walked over to the door an opened it, only to find a doglike creature growling at Kathryn's door. Growwwwl, grrrrr, snarrrrllllll, snorkkkkkkk, snore....
The snoring gradually broke through the scene, and the hallway dissolved into blackness. Another, louder snore.
Sitting straight up in bed our author exclaimed, "Oh dear lord, I just had the worst dream." The snoring stopped abruptly.
"What was it?" hubby asked.
"Janeway brought Jeffen back up to the ship, Chakotay and Seven were an item, Harry died, the Doc got neutered... well it wasn't all bad."
"I told you to come to bed and not stay up reading spoilers." Wump! A pillow thudded down across his stomach. "Oof!
"I wasn't reading spoilers. I was minding my own business, and people babbled."
"Oh, then I guess you weren't reading the interview with that guy who plays Chakotay, uh Beltran, about how he engineered a relationship for Chakotay with the blond bombshell? Sounds like he's a pretty smart guy if you asked me. I mean, I've always said, Seven appeals to 14 year old males of all ages."
Pulling the pillow over her head, "Groannnn! It just keeps getting worse. I'm going to try in vain to go sleep and hope that when I wake up this was all a bad dream." She thought for a moment, and then pulled the pillow away. "How did you hear about that interview anyway?"
"Hmmm? Oh, you left your browser open. By the way, the trailers for next week are hot, but I don't think they quite understand the demographic when they say, we get to see Seven the way we've always wanted - Oooof," he exhaled as the pillow impacted with his head, cutting off the rest of his possibly life threatening comment.
"Hey, I'm only human."
"Yes, I can tell," she said as he snuggled closer.
"Well... you did say you couldn't get back to sleep...."
...
~*~*~ THE END ~*~*~
