Ready,
Set, AIM!
The first thing you need to do is make sure you are signed-up
with AIM.
If you're not, just click on the graphic to the right to sign-up.
Then follow the instructions below to send an instant message. It's
not the easiest way for DC users to send messages... but still fast (in
terms of when they actually get the message). If they are currently
on, you can talk almost as if you were in a chat room.
Please note that all the objects in <brackets> are of your
choosing (and don't actually type the brackets either).
- Type in the following address in the URL bar of any DC browser: pwchat://irc.zevils.com:6667
(or just click here)
- Pick a nickname (different or the same as your AIM or AOL name, doesn't
matter) by typing: /nick <name>, and then register
it by typing the following: /msg nickserve register <password>
- Now to sign on to AIM (after registering), type the following:
/msg aimserv signon <AIMname> <AIMpassword>
- In order to send a message, you have to add them to your Buddy List.
Do this by typing: /msg aimserve add_buddy <your buddy>
- Check to see if they're currently online by typing: /msg aimserv
onbuddies (If you don't see <your buddy> listed, then
they're not on.)
- To send a message (even if they're not on, they'll get it the next
time they login), type: /msg aim-<your buddy> <message>
(There are no spaces in "aim-<your buddy>".
For example, /msg aim-nbridnet Hello there!)
There that wasn't so bad. The next time you want to send a message
to someone already on your Buddy List just follow the above steps, but
for step 2 type /msg nickserve identify <password>
and skip step 4.
Here is other AIM information you might find useful...

list, including offline buddies, type: /msg aimserv buddylist |
 |
To search for buddies, old
or new, type the following: /msg aimserv dir_search <name
or info to search for> |
